Our Vision

The vision of the VVE PTA DREAM team is to prioritize diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at Valle Verde while celebrating the many backgrounds of students, families and caregivers at VVE.

The PTA DREAM team is committed to actively supporting and encouraging diverse representation in our Valle Verde school community. Our goal is to ensure all families and caregivers feel welcome and heard, while supporting Valle Verde’s initiatives to maintain an equitable learning environment for all students.

The DREAM team is open to all parents, family members, and caregivers of currently enrolled Valle Verde students, faculty, staff, and administrators who are passionate about diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at Valle Verde Elementary.

Our Mission

Cultivate a school community where the rich diversity of unique backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives are celebrated, in order to create an environment where all students and their families feel valued, honored and included.

Our goals include:

  1. Increase and elevate voices from diverse perspectives on the Valle Verde PTA

  2. Ensure all children have access to books that serve as windows into others' lived experiences and a mirror into their own by supplementing school and classroom libraries with diverse books. (*Source: Rudine Sims Bishop TED Talk, Windows, Mirrors and Sliding Glass Doors)

    • We’re working on an initiative to add additional diverse books to the Valle Verde library!

    • See the books on our draft VV Diverse Book List here and submit a suggestion for a book that we don’t have already, using this form.

  3. Highlight a wide range of cultures and traditions throughout the school year through displays, events, storytimes, and more, to broaden awareness of a variety of backgrounds and experiences

  4. Actively seek out partnerships with outside organizations and groups that are  focused on multiculturalism, anti-racism, and equity to gather insights and share resources with our school community.

Valle Verde Diverse Book Initiative

bringing diverse books to our school library

Ensure that all Valle Verde students have access to books that serve as windows into others' lived experiences and mirrors into their own lives*, by supplementing school and classroom libraries with books that celebrate and uplift diverse identities, backgrounds and cultures.

We have started a list of diverse books to supplement the Valle Verde library here. (You can also suggest a book here).

If you would like to donate a book or make a monetary donation to help us with this initiative, we would greatly appreciate it!

Our plan is to bring over 100 new books, spanning reading and grade levels to the Valle Verde library by the end of the calendar year.
